We Build, You Own projects leave the code in your infrastructure. PDT is a free tool you run yourself.2,4
Where it runsA Windows service on your network, configured and monitored through our hosted portal.Batch jobs run in Auto IDM’s infrastructure or through a local agent that reports job metadata. Done-For-You plans offer an optional on-premises runner.5,2
Where employee data goesHR records and directory updates stay on your network. Our portal doesn’t store employee personal data.It pulls HR data through each system’s API. It says each customer’s data is isolated and access is logged, and its main data infrastructure is in the US.6,5,9
On-premises Active DirectoryYes. The agent uses outbound connections only. No inbound firewall access is needed.Yes, with home folders and group memberships. It needs a Windows Server with Active Directory and offers several architectures, which its pages don’t detail.6,7

Moving over

Moving from Auto IDM to ezOnboard

We guide you through setup. Preview the changes before updating your directory.

  1. 01

    Gather your business rules

Ask Auto IDM for the business rules you designed together: how HR fields map to directory attributes, the OUs and groups each kind of employee gets, and how leavers are handled. These become your ezOnboard rules.

  2. 02

Decide what stays with Auto IDM

List everything else it does for you, such as write-back to HR, welcome packets, home folders, and integrations with apps beyond Microsoft’s. ezOnboard takes over Active Directory, Entra ID, and Exchange only.

  3. 03

Install the agent and connect HR

We help install the agent on your server and connect your HR system. Auto IDM keeps running during setup.

  4. 04

    Configure your rules

We configure rules for accounts, OUs, groups, attributes, licenses and mailboxes, and set safety limits.

  5. 05

    Preview changes across your workforce

Match HR records to existing accounts by employee ID or email. Preview changes without updating the directory. Compare the plan with what Auto IDM does today and adjust the rules.

  6. 06

    Switch over

Ask Auto IDM to stop writing to your directory, then turn on ezOnboard’s automation, so only one system makes changes there. Auto IDM can keep running your other integrations if you still need them.

Frequently asked questions

What is Auto IDM?
Auto IDM, short for Automatic Identity Management, is a company in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that automates IT onboarding and offboarding as a done-for-you service. It builds and runs the integrations between HR systems such as BambooHR and ADP and directories such as Active Directory, Entra ID, and Google Workspace, and it reaches out when something breaks.
How much does Auto IDM cost?
Auto IDM publishes its prices. Done-For-You plans cost $1–$4 per user / month, with changes and support included: Basic, at $1–$2, for an HR to directory integration, and Premium, at $4, with 3 more integrations. They also carry a one-time implementation fee, typically $1,000–$2,000. Its pricing page doesn’t say which Basic rate applies at which headcount, and its ROI calculator uses $2. A Jumpstart automation built in a day is a $2,000 one-time fee, projects it builds for you to own are typically $5k–$20k, and PDT is free. ezOnboard’s pricing is based on the number of employee records we sync, and it’s up to 4× cheaper than Auto IDM. Email sales@ezonboard.io for a quote.
Does Auto IDM run in our network or in its cloud?
Either. Auto IDM says it runs jobs in its own secured infrastructure or deploys an agent to a server inside yours, and its Done-For-You plans list an optional on-premises runner. ezOnboard always runs inside your network, and its agent only connects outbound.
Is ezOnboard a managed service too?
ezOnboard is a product you run, with a team behind it. Our implementation team installs the agent with you, writes your rules, and watches the first runs. After that, alerts reach you and our on-call team, and we respond to support requests within one business day.
Can we take our setup with us if we leave Auto IDM?
Auto IDM says the business rules you design together are yours, and it will hand them over. That makes them a good starting point for your ezOnboard rules, which our implementation team rebuilds and dry-runs with you.
Can we use ezOnboard and Auto IDM together?
Yes, as long as only one of them writes to your directory. ezOnboard can take over Active Directory, Entra ID, and Exchange while Auto IDM keeps syncing NetSuite, Google Workspace, or other applications.
